Aš Museum

Category: Museums Region: Aš and its surroundings Town:

The Aš Museum was established in 1892. It displays primarily ceramics, furniture, folk costumes, weapons, paintings, books and collections donated by the town’s citizens and further extended by the gifts of local burghers and factory owners. It acquired its contemporary appearance in 1966 when it was moved to the reconstructed building of the small chateau.

A textile display arranged in a contemporary way was opened in the Aš Museum in 1986, documenting the development of fabrics production in the Aš (Asch) area from the oldest procedures of spinning, weaving, knitting, dying and further processing until the mid-20th century. The weaving and knitting machines on display are kept operational.

The exhibition of “History of the Aš Region” opened in 1988 records the decisive historical events in the area from the first written record from 1270 until the end of the autonomous development of the Aš region by the so called “Temperament Points” of Maria Theresa from 1775. The development of crafts in the Aš area is documented from the mid-17th century to the early 19th century. The exhibition is supplemented by furniture, porcelain, glass and paintings from the 17th-19th centuries from private collections of Aš burghers.
