Climbing in Šemnice

Category: Outdoor Climbing Region: Karlovy Vary and its surroundings Town: Šemnice

On the bank of the Ohře River not far from the village of Šemnice, you may find several rock massifs ideal for climbing. The main massif by the bridge is up to 30 metres high. There are 5 additional sectors in the area: Sluneční, which is ideal for beginners and children, Boulovatá, Skříň, Západní, and Špičkárna. Since the rock is quite heterogeneous, it offers the possibility to try various climbing techniques, such as slab, shelf, or ledge climbing. The rock has a rather coarse-grained structure.

The difficulty grades are indicated on each of the cliffs. A map of the area, which is installed at the foot of the main massifs, serves for better orientation.

You can reach the climbing site if you continue upstream from the village of Šemnice to the settlement known as U mostu (literally meaning "By the Bridge). Immediately after the bridge, turn right and go all the way to the end of the road. From there, you will walk upstream another 50 metres to the rock formation.
