High Furnace in Šindelová

Category: Technical Monuments Region: Krušné hory – Ore Mountains Town: Šindelová

In 1836, the construction of the largest iron works in the region began in the village of Šindelová. After its completion, a high furnace with 3 huge hammer-mills, a tinning plant, a smelter, a rolling mill and a core moulding shop were standing there. Three mill wheels and the second largest steam engine in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy powered the ironworks. Two world patents were utilized here: tin plating, later zinc plating, and continuous engraving.

The remains of the high furnace and the former ironworks on the edge of the municipality of Šindelová are a technical cultural monument.
