Observation Tower on Bučina Hill near Kyselka

Category: Lookout and Observation Towers Region: Karlovy Vary and its surroundings Town: Ostrov

The observation tower on the hill of Bučina (literally meaning "Beech Wood Hill", 582m) located approximately 1.5 kilometres from the spa of Kyselka was built upon the order of Heinrich Mattoni in the early 1880s. The observation tower offered a breathtaking view of the entire valley of the Ohře River as far as Karlovy Vary and of the mountain range of Krušné hory (Ore Mountains). Bučina Hill became very popular among spa guests due to a large number of promenade paths leading through the woods, as well as rest areas, arbours, and observation points.

After World War II, the tower was gradually falling into disrepair and the view was eventually blocked by tall trees. The situation changed in 2003 when the Municipality of Kyselka initiated its renovation and the felling of some of the surrounding trees. The observation tower received a new wooden roof during the renovation.

You may reach the lookout gallery, which is situated at the height of approximately 10 metres, after climbing 62 stairs.
