The Capuchin Monastery and Church of St. Anthony of Padua, Sokolov
Category: Religious Monuments Region: Sokolov and its surroundings Town: Sokolov
The Capuchin Monastery with the Church of St. Anthony of Padua is located in the town of Sokolov. There are several buildings of the convent surrounding the square paradise yard on the premises but it is dominated by the Monastery Church of St. Anthony of Padua.
The monastery and the church were built in 1663-1667 by the order of J. H. Nostic for the Order of Capuchin Friars Minor who used it until 1950. The Communist regime closed it then and the Czechoslovak Army resided there in the 1950’s, afterwards it was used as a warehouse. The monastery and the church fell into serious disrepair during that time.
The premises have undergone reconstruction and now they are being used as a concert and exhibition hall. The Permon beer has been brewed here since 2011.
