Factory in Jelení

Category: Technical Monuments Region: Krušné hory – Ore Mountains Town: Nejdek

The monumental torso of the former tin processing factory may be found in the almost extinct village of Jelení. In addition to the tin ore preparation plant, other buildings, such as head frames, transformer stations, compressor plants, workshops, a joiner's and a blacksmith's shop, a water treatment plant, warehouses, an administration building, garages, a weighing station, stables, laboratories, a gatehouse, etc. used to stand on the factory grounds. Settling tanks that are still apparent today were built next to the factory.

A camp for prisoners of war, mainly from the Soviet Union and France, was also built in the vicinity of the factory. More than 300 POWs worked at the factory in 1941. After World War II, operations were not renewed and the factory and its buildings faced inevitable decay.
