Františkovy Lázně Museum

Category: Museums Region: Cheb, Františkovy Lázně and their surroundings Town: Františkovy Lázně

The museum history starts in 1912, when the local civil association gathered historical objects among the Františkovy Lázně citizens for a future local museum. This initiative was supported by Evžen Loimann, Mayor of Františkovy Lázně at that time, who transferred the whole issue into competence of the town – thus the museum was officially founded and was housed in the Aeskulap building No. 131 in Americká Street.

After the end of World War I the museum was led by the prominent regional researcher Alois John, who acquired exhibition premises in the 1930’s and turned the collection into a true museum. During World War II the museum ceased to exists and the collections disappeared. Items started to be collected again from 1957 and in 1958 the museum moved to its current building in Dr. Pohoreckého Street (next to the theatre). The museum management, economic and business departments, the historical department and the professional library are located here as well, besides the extensive exhibitions and displays.

Today the museum contains about 7,000 items.
