Ruins of Church of St. Nicholas under Krudum Mountain

Category: Castle & Chateau Ruins Region: Sokolov and its surroundings Town: Horní Slavkov

According to ancient legends, the Church of Saint Nicholas (Czech: Svatý Mikuláš) had stood under the fabled Krudum Mountain in Slavkovský les (Slavkov Forest) in the 13th century. Until 2002, the church was a myth and a mere dream of many treasure hunters. Its existence, however, was confirmed by extensive archaeological research, during which the remains of the late Romanesque church were discovered.

As a bike trail leads along the site of the excavated ruins of the Church of Saint Nicholas, it is an ideal destination of a pleasant outing during which you may admire the beautiful countryside of Slavkovský les (Slavkov Forest). In addition, you may also visit the nearby look out tower.
