Salingburg Lookout Tower
Category: Lookout and Observation Towers Region: Cheb, Františkovy Lázně and their surroundings Town: Františkovy Lázně
The Salingburg Lookout Tower was built to resemble old castle ruins in 1906 at the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the first written document mentioning the mineral springs on the territory of Františkovy Lázně. Water from the local mineral springs was commonly known as Saling then and the ghost that allegedly occupied the quasi castle ruins were called Salinger.
The lookout tower thus received the name of Salingburg. The Salingburg Lookout Tower is located on the south side of Františkovy Lázně near the Pyramida Hotel. It is often called the "Queer Tower" because it does not offer a good view of the surroundings due to tall shading trees. Nonetheless, you may see the hilltops near the towns of Luby and Skalná.
Fifty-two stairs lead to the lookout gallery situated at the height of approximately 10 metres
