The Historical Narrow-gauge Railway Kateřina „ A Bit Different Railway“

Category: Museums Region: Cheb, Františkovy Lázně and their surroundings Town: Skalná

The historical narrow-gauge railway continuous more  than  a hundred-year-old tradition of industrial tracks which were used for carting raw materials from mines situated around the town Skalná near the spa town  Františkovy Lázně.

In 2012 thanks to the cooperation of the Association IMC Plzeň and the owner of the railways the firm LB Minerals there was initiated the traffic of tourist trains on less than 2 km long tracks between the stations Soos and the station Kateřina, where there is a small depot with workshop facilities of the railway. At the beginning there were two passenger railroad cars of the type DM 12, previously used for the transportation of miners. Gradually the rolling-stock  was complemented, so in five years of the service the carrier has  already had four covered and one open passenger railroad cars.

The regular operation of trains takes place on annouced days (they are usually at weekends or on public holidays, always from the end of April until September; during summer holidays and then every Saturday and Sunday).

In the area of the station Soos near the same named nature reserve there is a permanent exhibition of narrow-gauge railways.

Within the Competition of the most beautiful station of the Czech Republic in 2015 the station Kateřina won the title „Fairytale Station“.
