Vlčí jámy Nature Monument

Category: Points of Interest Region: Krušné hory – Ore Mountains Town: Horní Blatná

On the slopes of Blatenský vrch (Blatná Hill) we find the Vlčí Jámy (Wolf Hollows) Nature Monument. It consists of two cave-ins, remnants of the tin mines Wolfgang and Jiří from the 16th century. Now they are called “Vlčí jáma” (Wolf Hollow) and “Ledová jáma” (Ice Pit), both being extraordinary nature and technical monuments.

You can peek into the 25 m deep Wolf Hollow from an outlook at the beginning of the depression. The Ice Pit allows you to climb down by stairs through a narrow gorge all the way to the point where you can see an ice layer remaining here round the year due to a specific micro-climate.

The “Vlčí jámy” are located on the route of the nature trail Horní Blatná - Vlčí jámy. More >>
