Horní Slavkov

Region: Sokolov and its surroundings

The town of Horní Slavkov is situated in the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area. The history of the town dates back to the early 14th century and it is closely bound up with tin mining.

The most significant landmark of Horní Slavkov is the Gothic Church of Saint George from 1380. You may also find other notable buildings and structures that are part of the urban monument reserve. You should also visit the local museum expositions, which present the history of the town and the activities and trades inherently bound with it, such as mining, tinsmithery, porcelain making, etc.

Horní Slavkov may also boast a technical rarity: a 24-kilometre long water canal built in the 16th century known as Dlouhá Stoka (Long Ditch), which used to supply water to the local tin mines.
