Ostrov
Region: Karlovy Vary and its surroundings
Ostrov (literally meaning "Island") is situated approximately 10 kilometres north of Karlovy Vary at the foot of Krušné hory (Ore Mountains). The town may boast a number of historical buildings built in Romanesque, Gothic, and Renaissance styles. Most of the historical monuments may be found in the vicinity of Old Square and the Chateau Park. The cemetery Church of Saint Jacob the Greater is the town's oldest architectural monument built in between the years 1224 and 1226. The most sought after sight is undoubtedly the newly reconstructed monastic complex known as the "Posvátný okrsek" (Holy Precinct).
